Heather Moore tackles faith and physics
One of the things I’ve been asked when people find out I’m a Christian and study physics is how I can believe in both. How can I view both the creation described in Genesis and the big bang theory as true? I’d never considered there to be any conflict when I first got asked this, but neither could I come up with any good answer. There seemed to be a perception that each contradicted the other, a view that these things could not stand together, let alone be complementary. It’s a perception that has led to non-Christians disregarding the Bible and its message, and to some Christians denying some well-proven and generally accepted science. My answer to that question has since developed from a cop-out of ‘it just seems right’ to a conviction that science and faith are more alike than they may seem, and that the idea that they cannot stand together has appeared on a similar timeline as the dwindling importance of faith to the western world….
