Chapter & Verse: Genesis 12:1-9 - Reform Magazine
Meg Warner on a journey with Abram
Many of us know this passage pretty well. The LORD calls Abram to embark on an extraordinary journey – away from his homeland and everything he knows – and to travel to a land that God promises to show him. Incredibly, Abram goes, just as the LORD tells him. He takes his aged, barren wife Sarai, his nephew Lot and all his possessions, and goes to Canaan. Once there, Abram walks around the land, building altars and calling upon the name of the LORD. The LORD, meanwhile, makes a series of promises to Abram: to make Abram a great nation, to bless him and make his name great, to make him a blessing so that the nations might be blessed through him, and to give the land to Abram’s offspring. This is the point at which the story of Israel, the saga of God and God’s people, really gets going…
