Sam Goodman finds hymns easier than sermons

When is the best time to write a hymn? In the middle of the night? In hospital recovering from a stroke? Following a talk on mental health? When reflecting on the Lord’s Prayer? Inspired by Sunday morning service? Or simply responding to hearing a particular phrase? Whatever the moment, Sam Goodman often responds with a song. ‘I often find it easier to write a hymn than a sermon,’ Sam, a URC Accredited Lay Preacher, explains….
